摘要: | PhotographyisemployedtoobjectivelyquantifyopacityoffluidssuchassmokeplumesanddustviaamethodtermedtheDigitalOpticalMethod(DOM(TM)).TheDOM(TM)quantifiestheratioofradiancevaluesbymeansofacameraresponsecurveobtainedusingobjectivemeasures.Theradianceratiosarethenusedtocalculateopacityoftargetfluidssuchassmokeplumes.TheDOM(TM)quantifiesopacityduringbothdaytimeandnighttimeconditionswithamuchbroaderrangeofsubjecttypes,e.g.,white,grayandblacksmokeplumes,andenvironmentalconditions,e.g.,non-blue-sky,building,andmountainbackgrounds,thanexistingsystemswhilenotrequiringhumaninterpretationforanyapplication.Inoneembodiment,theDOM(TM)quantifiesopacityfromdigitalphotosusingapre-designedalgorithmandaninexpensivedigitalcamera.VerylittletrainingisneededtoimplementtheDOM(TM)andityieldsconsistentobjectivequantitativeresults,whileprovidingapermanentphotographicrecordeasilydigitallyarchived |
